The chickens in KFC’s supply chain are fast-growing Frankenchickens, sourced from companies including Moy Park and Avara Foods. They are bred to reach slaughter weight in 35 days, a 400% increase in growth rate since the 1950s. Their bodies cannot keep pace with their own growth. Lameness, broken bones, heart attacks, and organ failure are common. To keep the chickens alive long enough to be killed, their suppliers use up to three times more antibiotics than in slower-growing breeds.
In December 2024, the Court of Appeal ruled that animals should not be farmed if it means they will suffer because of how they have been bred. That ruling describes the lives of the birds KFC serves.
In public, KFC says they are proud of their chicken and are “guided by care and compassion”. Ask KFC to stop gaslighting the public and stop selling overbred chickens reared inside factory farms.
